Course Information

Classes meet for eight hours a day, five days a week for eight weeks. This includes a combination of lecture, forging, and practical horseshoeing. Students handle horses and tools from the first week of school, and continue with as much hands-on experience as time allows throughout the course. Hand forged shoes are fabricated for basic and therapeutic shoeing, as students study anatomy, physiology, and the conformation of the horse. The motivated student has virtually unlimited opportunity to shoe a wide variety of horses under the supervision of an experienced instructor. The student to instructor ratio is low, allowing for individualized feedback and instruction that includes client relations, business practice, and other skills necessary for students to successfully begin their own business.

Five classes are held yearly, in January, April, June, August and October. Call for dates. The Sierra South Horseshoeing School has been granted approval by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary & Vocational Education.
